Friday freebie

Welcome to the "Friday freebie" page. The old page was once again getting a bit too large, but you can still download the freebies from the old pages Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4, Page 5, Page 6, Page 7 and Page 8

Welcome to 2010 and thanks a lot for all the Christmas greetings, I really appreciate that. There will be a few changes around here this year. Unfortunately I won't be able to make quite as many freebies as before, so I can't promise you two new freebies every week. Sometimes it is hard to find the time and inspiration, and as this is something I do just for fun and not for profit, I prefer to do it in my own pace and whenever I feel inspired. I will keep posting both tutorials, tips and freebies though, so hopefully I will be able to post something every friday. As you might have discovered, IkeaGoddess has decided not to hunt for freebies any more, but my freebies are still available at DigiScrapDepot.com.

I have been looking for some different stamp fonts for the file tabs, so this is what I found. Just "Google" the font name, and they are all free................

10 different metal hinges in .png format (rusty, steel, weathered, worn, verdigris etc.).

One of the magical things about scrap booking is playing around with opacity and layer blend modes to change the appearance of a photo. A very good friend of mine found some lovely old film textures at http://lostandtaken.com/ and  I thought that I would try to make something with them. I removed the background, resized and rounded the corners and you can download the edited textures here (don't miss "Lost and Taken" though, as there are lots of other goodies there). Anyhow this is what I came up with:
I tried to make some quick examples to show what photos can look like, when you adjust the opacity and apply
different layer blend modes to the film textures. This all depends a lot on the photo you use, and it is very much
a "trial and error" thing, so go ahead and have fun.............

Still have some old freebies made in 2009, so found these "Piggy" and "Bunny" twill pieces.... :-)

I have been working on some vintage clocks lately, so
hope you like them. There is 5 different colored clocks in this bag (the small picture in the moons age window is different too). Later I will post a clock template too, making you able to change both the clock background, the small picture in the moons age window, and set the clock hands.

Before Christmas last year I promised to add these signs without the Christmas text on, so here they are. There is 15 signs in .png format included in this bag.

5 layered PSP or PS hinge templates, so you can make your own hinges. Just open the template and paste your own color/pattern into the color/pattern layer. Merge all visible layers and your hinge is ready to use.

Before Christmas someone asked about envelopes and quill pens to go together with the Christmas stamps and rubber stamps. I actually made those freebies, but didn't had the time to post them for various reasons. But here they are, and you can download by clicking the link:

2 quill pens (one brown and one blue/yellow)

Envelope backs (8 old envelope backs)

Envelope fronts (8 old envelope fronts)

Envelope fronts (8 old envelope fronts with different stamps/rubber stamps applied)

You might wonder why there has been fewer freebies than normal the last few weeks, and above is the explanation - LOL. My husband and I have been away visiting the island Komandoo at the Maldives, so I thought I would share a few photos. After we returned home, I read an article about a sister island in a travel magazine, and that is where I found the title "Too perfect for words". If you want more information about Komandoo you can click here. Credit: Frames from http://simplyyin.blogspot.com/

"JJ" asked for some of the stamps I used on the envelope fronts, but actually I didn't use any stamps. Instead I looked for a philatelic webpage, and found a few where they display pretty old postal stamps on envelopes covers. I copied the stamp I liked and pasted it onto my envelope front (or back) in a new layer. Then I changed the layer blend mode for this new layer to "darken". In most cases you don't have to do any more, the area surrounding the stamp will be invisible and the stamp will look great. Sometimes however you need to resize the stamp, or use your eraser tool a little bit to remove small unwanted areas. This is a pretty cool way to do it, and you don't need to convert the stamps into .png files. Make sure that the stamp you chose is darker than your envelope, as light or white areas will be invisible.

If you prefer ready made .png files instead, you can download my small "Collection of 30 postal stamps/labels". I didn't do anything except turning the stamps I found on the web into .png files, so mind that they will be scruffy and non-perfect, but this is how I like them (you can see some of them above). Use your eraser tool to remove or make areas of the stamps less visible.

I had so much fun making the stamps, and just couldn't stop - LOL. So I also made this collection of
"12 travel stamps" taken from our old passports. Below you can see some of the stamps used on one of my old envelopes.

I know it is a bit late for Valentine, but I couldn't resist playing around with my old candy hearts. Download here (the black background is for preview only): http://www.4shared.com/file/225830501/3031aa8c/Valentine_quotes.html

Soffy asked about a tutorial on how to make shadows on photos, so here it is. There is also a similar tutorial on  http://www.storeide.se/gunhild/Scrapbooking7.htm. This tutorial is made for PSP, but hopefully PS users can use it too.
3 little scanned frames from my mothers collection of old frames.

Tip: You can find a nice free paper clip font made by Alan Carr here
http://www.fontspace.com/alan-carr?p=3 If you need a paper clip template, you can use the "I" from this font.

Heidi asked how to make a basic paperclip. You can start with the "I" from the font above (first picture below).

Apply a bevel, and then you have a basic paper clip (second picture from left).

If you want the paperclip to be more shiny or metallic you can use a filter like "Super Blade Pro" or "Alien skin Eye Candy 6" to apply effects like "Crome" (third from left) or "Crome" and "Glass" (forth from left). You can download a free trial of "Eye Candy 6" here: http://www.alienskin.com/downloads/

I made a simple steel colored alpha from the font I found.
It includes capital letters, numbers and a few signs. I also made a PSP and PS template, so you can make your own paper clips by pasting your own color or pattern into the "color or pattern" layer.

I am still cleaning up from 2009, so decided to put all my old twill ribbons together in one bag. To the left you can see the different ribbons. Download here: http://www.4shared.com/file/231358938/730cb18e/Twill_collection.html
